It was all action in West Virginia on the WPE White Water Weekend
|
So many times I hear people talking about how hard it
is to stay motivated to live healthy and stay fit. WPE is
all about building a healthy lifestyle that can permeate
nearly every aspect of life, seemingly effortlessly.
In other words, living healthy doesn't have to be so
hard. That's the basis of adventure travel with WPE.
It's amazing to take a group of clients on a trip and see
them be able to work their bodies extremely hard, with
a smile on their face the entire time.
While I will never discredit the benefits of going to the
gym, I try to teach clients that fitness doesn't have to be
so daunting. Get out there. Chose an active lifestyle.
Before you know it, you're not only reaching goals, but
exceeding them -- and enjoying every minute of it.
We're planning 8 WPE Adventure
Trips this year. See tentative
dates and locations listed in the
left column on this page. For

We returned for a second year to the quaint town of Northport,
MI to enjoy some outdoor snow activities, gambling, and
relaxation. Our trip just wouldn’t have been complete without
returning to the Homewood Cabins. We were welcomed with
some wonderful “Up- North” hospitality and this year we were
even given access to the “linen van”. (Who knew that a
broken down van made a perfect storage unit for towels and
bed linens.)
Toni, Dori & Jeff after stopping to pick up some snowshoes
at REI in Troy, MI, hit the road Friday afternoon and made
great time to Traverse City. We decided at that time to tackle
the grocery shopping. As always, only the necessities were
collected; pop tarts, power bars and of course beer (a
welcome addition to the grocery list from last year, right Bob?)
After unpacking and picking beds (Lisa laid claim to the best
“cubby hole” in the whole cabin) we started on some dinner.
Pizza, salad and beer… What a great way to fuel up for a big
day of snowshoeing on Saturday.
The troops arose bright and early on Saturday morning. Or,
they would have if Dori had set her alarm clock or Jeff could
have figured out how to use his new Trio. So, without a wake
up call, everyone was up and ready for breakfast by 8:30am
(We enjoyed the extra sleep, though). After repacking the
snowshoes, the five of us piled into the Jeep and headed out
to the Leelanau State Park, with a quick pit stop to Jeff’s
favorite place in the whole world (no, it wasn’t a steak
house). The Grand Traverse Lighthouse proved to be just as
beautiful as the year before, but a lot less chilly
We unloaded at the Leelanau State Park, took a minute to
figure out how the heck to put on snowshoes and were off on
the trails. Well, at least most of us were. Jeff’s snowshoes
wouldn’t cooperate with his feet and he “kindly” returned
them to the car. We spent 2 ½ hours snowshoeing every foot
of the trails. To truly “try out” our new snowshoes we had to
do a little “off” trail hiking, which led us up every steep hill in
the park (thanks Toni!). The best part was skiing back down
or sliding on your butt in some cases. A short visit to Look
Out Point and a tree climbing excursion by Jeff wrapped up
our trip to Leelanau State Park.
Although, we didn’t get to see the sun set at Peterson Park,
the daytime view was absolutely breathtaking! We played on
icebergs, snapped some pictures and then it was time to get
down and dirty (literally).

we knew what awaited us at the bottom, a return trip to the top. Although it was hairy at
moments, the climb proved to be everyone’s favorite part!
A little bruised, tired, extremely dirty, but happy, we loaded back into the jeep and took
bootcamp to the next level, with a trip to Gill’s Pier. What better way to end a perfect day of
exercise, than with a little wine tasting!
Once again, we headed for the casino in Peshawbetown (Leelanau sands) to try our luck.
But, we decided that our luck would have to wait, until we were less hungry. Lisa gets “da
bomb” award, for suggesting the best place to eat in Suttons Bay. Boone’s has great
atmosphere, great perch sticks and great beer!
Sunday morning came around way to soon. With full stomachs, rested minds and aching
muscles we dragged our stuff to the car for the 4 hour trip home. At least, we didn’t have
to contend with a ragging snowstorm this year. All in all, we had a great weekend and will
be back again next year for some snow and dirt fun!!!
