YOU GET WHAT YOU
EARN!
With all the talk and all the stories
about how tough the times are
here in Michigan, it amazes me to
see how so many people choose
to take while offering nothing back,
and do so under the guise of
"entitlement".
I was recently told of an employee
that QUIT her job, let's call her DD.
She quit in front of several
employees. After leaving the office
and placing a phone call to her
husband (who's been on disability
for 6 years but still manages to do
carpentry work under the table) she
returned to the office and stated
that she was not in fact quitting and
that they would have to "drag her
out because she's not going to
mess up her unemployment
chances". After being informed that
she could not "un-quit", she
proceeded to file for unemployment.
Once the office received the
paperwork, claiming DD was fired,
the owner protested and even
provided signed statements from
other employees that were present
when she quit. She was still
granted unemployment! It amazes
me that, with so many people in
this state that actually need it,
these cases are not more closely
investigated. This is someone who
was looking for a reason to be fired
because she was more willing to
sit on her ass and get paid for
doing nothing, like her husband,
than she was in putting in an
honest days work for an honest
days pay - because she felt she
was "entitled to it", due to the fact
that employers already pay into
unemployment.
This attitude, more than anything
else, is a huge reason why this
state is the way that it is. There are
too many people that feel that
they're entitled to something
without having to go out and earn it.
So now, there are two people
sitting on their asses getting paid
to do absolutely nothing. Their bills
are paid by us, you and me, while
other people that need it may
actually get denied.
Until something changes with our
work ethic and people start to
speak up about these incidents, it
will continue this way. I know that I,
for one, will make a it a point to
teach me son never take anything
that he's not earned. If only
everyone else had that same
philosophy, our state may not be
where it's at.

Name: Melissa Kowalewski Age: 29 Hometown: Royal Oak, MI
When did you become involved in athletics? Well, I’ve never been exactly what you call the athletic type…
What motivates you to workout? My family. I feel that I am 100% responsible for their well being. Now that I’ve been going to MCB my husband has started running and we are both more active with our kids.
What is your training schedule (What activities do you do, how often, and what days of the week)? I try to go to MCB 3-4 times a week. Some nights after the kids are in bed I also jump on the treadmill while I’ m watching TV. Recently I’ve added yoga to my routine. I go one night a week.
How did you get started in Motorcity Bootcamp? My sister-in-law, Kathy, has been great motivation for me. She has been working out with MCB for over a year now and she looks great!
What athletic achievement are you the most proud of? I would have to say starting MCB and sticking with it. It hasn’t always been easy, but this is the longest I have ever stuck with any one workout. Something just keeps bringing me back, maybe it is the fact that it never gets boring, or that even going at my own pace I get a great workout!
What was the most challenging athletic experience you’ve been involved in? Finishing my first Bump and Run. I had only been coming to MCB for about a week, I was totally unfit and I have never been so tired in my life, but I didn’t give up.
What is your favorite sport/activity to be involved in? I really am learning to love jogging. Sometimes in the early morning it is nice and quiet and it is time that is truly my own.
Do you have a specific diet you follow? I don’t really follow a “diet”. I believe in everything in moderation and lots of water every day.
What is your favorite food? I love sushi.
What is your favorite food (indulgence)? Anything that involves chocolate.
What is your favorite piece of exercise gear that you own? My Ipod.
Must-Haves in your gym bag? My Ipod, a good pair of gloves, and a bottle of water.
