When It Comes to Giving Back, No Effort is Too Small
The ability to give something back through participation in charity sporting events and
volunteerism is one of the very best benefits of choosing to lead a healthy life. Not
everyone in the world has the ability to run a 5k- or 10k-race or to bike or do other fitness
activities. The fact that we can, and at the same time contribute to making the world a
better place, is something we take seriously.
Not only do WPE clients have the athletic ability to participate in charity sporting events, but
we find that many go above and beyond to raise additional money or give their time. To
us, that says something about their character -- and ours.
From leukemia and lymphoma, to breast cancer, to arthritis, to HIV and AIDS, WPE and
our clients have given time and money to help with research and finding better treatments
or a cure. And it doesn't stop with disease. WPE also supports important organizations
like the Humane Society and the Detroit Institute of Arts, among others, to do our part in
making a better community for everyone.
Nobody can do everything, but everybody can do something!

Motor City Bootcamp "Races For A Cure"
Motor City Bootcamp was well represented in the D on Saturday, May 31st for the annual
5K run/walk Race for A Cure. Although a little tricky getting
to the start because of all of the road closures and
construction, a total of 40 people sporting their pink or
green camo shirts waited outside of Hockey Town ready for some running fun in the
sunshine!
When the gun went off… we just stood there! With 30,000
people at the race, it took a few minutes to even cross the
start line. The non-stop weaving in and out of runners and walkers made the 3.2 mile
course even that much more challenging. Every year is a good year to do this race, but our
bootcampers really rocked the course this year. Special props go out to…
Toni Girolami and her sister for competing the 5 K walk! Congrats to Tom Synder and Joe
Dobos for completing their first 5 K race ever. Ken Watters, Carrie Freeland and Lisa
Litinas all had personal bests on Saturday and Kathy took off an entire 2 minutes from
her 2 mile time from 3 days prior.
Gage Watters made his first appearance at the Race for a Cure with help from Grandma’s
Ellen and Susan. Must be tough getting pushed in a stroller for 3.2 miles. Jeff already
tried to call dibbs on the stroller seat for next year!
Finally, making another first appearance at the race were Kathy Harmon and Marion
Layman. Both are members of the Freeland Orthodontics staff and drove all the way from
Lake Orion to compete.
The only hick-up occurred at the finish where we were all waiting on the left side of the
finish line. Only problem…. There were 2 finish lines. It’s a little hard to connect when
half of us were waiting at the finish on the back side of Comerica Park and the other half
were waiting on the first side of the park. Needless to say the smell of breakfast looming
in the air brought us back together finally.
As always, we finished up a hard morning of working out with a great breakfast at Lillie’s
Seafood in Royal Oak.
Good job to everyone who ran or walked! You not only improved your life by competing,
but with your support, you have improved the lives of all who have been affected by breast
cancer!
Motor City Bootcamp Heats the Streets, AGAIN!
Motor City Bootcamp warms up the streets in Detroit for a
third year in a row! The chilly winter weather wasn’t
enough to keep our bootcampers from the starting line.
A total of six showed up at 8am (some a little later than
others... Angie) on Saturday, February 10th to support the
3rd annual Heat The Streets Race in Detroit. The race raises funds for low income
households that can't afford to heat their home in the
winter.
Although most of us opted to run the 5K race, two
bootcampers, Jeannie and John toughed out the 10K
distance. Soon after crossing the finish line most of us
were getting warm at the Detroit Breakfast House for some
good eats! Although, Caleb decided it would be a better
idea to catch a bite to eat down by the Ambassador Bridge!
All in all, the event is a great cause and well organized! We’ll definitely be back next year
for round #4!

Eisbrenner PR Has Fire for
Giving
As several members from
Eisbrenner PR finished up their
first 8-week training session,
many decided it was time to put
their newly improved fitness
levels to work for charity.
With the exception of Marine
Reservist Nathan, the rest of the
group assembled at the starting
line for what would be their first
5k run ever.
While everyone was there to
raise money to keep those less
fortunate warm this winter, most
had personal goals, too.

accomplish what they set out for.
